Step-by-step Help on Using PayPal Online Payment

4/15/2013  NCLS

Starting in Fall 2013 semester, NCLS is adding the capability to accept online credit card payment by using PayPal. You do not need to have a PayPal account to use it, but it will be easier if you use a PayPal account. This is a safe online transaction (using SSL protocol) that provides instant update to your account and you will receive email notifications from both PayPal as well as NCLS confirming the transaction. NCLS does not store your credit card or PayPal account information. As a matter of fact, you only enter such information when you are at PayPal site.

Another change this time is the introduction of a $10 registration fee and an incentive to waive that registration fee if due is paid in full on or before a date (waive date). For more information, you can visit the Frequently Asked Questions page.

This document will provide a step-by-step instruction on how to use the system to make an online payment.

After you have done your registration for your students for various classes, you will see the following in your account page:

There are several things to pay attention here:

1.       As long as you have a balance due (in negative), you will see the PayPal’s “Pay Now” button. If you don’t have any balance due, then you will not see the “Pay Now” button.

2.       To use the online PayPal pay, you have to pay in full.

3.       If it is still on or before the registration fee waive date, this section will remind you to pay in full (less the registration fee) with PayPal to take that advantage. Like this picture shows, the total due is $120, but you can pay $110 (120 – 10) on or before 2013-06-23 to have the fee waived.

4.       There are two links there to help you that point to the Frequently Asked Questions page and the Step-by-Step Instructions page (this doc).

Click “Pay Now” button, and you will be taken to the PayPal site, with page like the following:

Note, at any time when you are at PayPal site, you have the option to cancel the transaction by clicking the link that says “Cancel and return to Newton School store”, which will bring you back to your NCLS family account.

Notice the NCLS log on the top. Your family ID should be displayed as “Item number”. You will see the due amount. As a matter of fact, if you move your mouse over the line that says “Total Due $xxx. Xxxxx”, it will tell you more about this payment and remind you to complete the transaction on or before the waive date:

If after that date, or your registration fee has been waived already, you see:

Now you have the option to use your existing PayPal account or pay with a credit card without using any PayPal account.

1.      Paying with your PayPal account

To use your PayPal account, enter the email address and the password:

Click “Log in”. You may be taken to a page to agree the agreement. After that, you will see:

Here you have the option to choose how you want to pay. With a PayPal account, you can link to your back accounts, or link with one or more of your credit cards, or use other options. Click “Change” next to “Payment methods” for how you want to pay. When it is done, click “Pay Now” to actually pay. You will see the confirmation page:

You see the transaction ID and an email has been sent, with a link to go back to your NCLS account. You have the option to print a receipt. At this time, you should receive two emails: one from PayPal, one from NCLS about your payment, as the system should have processed your payment and credited your account. Click on “Go back to your NCLS family account” button to continue. Go to section 3 to continue.

2.      Paying with your credit card (no PayPal account)

If you don’t have a PayPal account or do not want to use your PayPal account, you have the option to just use your credit card:

Click on “Don’t have a PayPal account” to continue.

Fill in the card information, name, address, phone and email. Click “Review and Continue”.

You see the summary page. If everything looks good, click “Pay Now” to proceed.

You see the confirmation page with receipt number and an email has been sent, with a link to go back to your NCLS account. You have the option to print a receipt. At this time, you should receive two emails: one from PayPal, one from NCLS about your payment, as the system should have processed your payment and credited your account. Click on “Go back to your NCLS family account” button to continue. Go to section 3 to continue.

3.      After the payment

After the payment, either with PayPal account or with a credit card, and you click on “Go back to your NCLS family account”, you are taken back to your NCLS family account page:

You will see that your balance is updated, that the payment is listed under the “Payment Information” section, with the date, the transaction ID (under Check No.) and the amount.
